Bezemer Dordrecht B.V., a member of IRO, has been active in Turkey in recent months. The company contributed to the second phase of the Sakarya gas field project by providing a linear winch for the landfall of a concrete-coated pipeline.
The pipe-pull operations took place near Filyos, a port town on the Black Sea. The pipeline, with a diameter of 28 inches and a total length of about 800 meters, required a pull force of over 250 tonnes to be positioned correctly.
Bezemer’s C1100, a continuous linear winch with a maximum pulling capacity of 500 tonnes, was used for the operation. Linear winches are often chosen for such projects because they can generate high pulling forces with a relatively small footprint. The winch is powered by a hydraulic unit, which also controls the system responsible for spooling the 1,350 meters of steel wire rope, 102 mm in diameter.
The landfall operation is just one of many steps leading to the project’s completion. The Sakarya gas field is expected to be operational by 2028, providing around 30% of Turkey’s gas needs.
