Annual speech IRO chairman Mark Heine
After the Annual General Meeting, our chairman Mark Heine delivered his annual speech with his vision of developments in the world that are relevant to the offshore industry and the role of IRO in this.
“These are incredibly exciting times in the world. We must not close our eyes to the challenges we face. Still, I am optimistic. It is clear that governments and energy companies are determined to invest in energy security and energy transition. IRO and its members are in an excellent position to fully respond to this with innovation and entrepreneurship. We are badly needed. In order to strengthen our role, it is important that we become a strong discussion partner for governments and other organisations. In addition, we help ourselves and others if we are fully committed to investing in talent. We desperately need interest in technology and the offshore industry. I am impressed with your entrepreneurship. It is an honor to be your chairman. I look forward to a sustainable future full of joint growth.”
Allseas
Host Pieter Heerema gave a presentation about, among other things, the successful extraction of manganese nodules from the ocean floor with minimal impact. Manganese nodules contain materials that are used in batteries for electric cars and solar panels, among other things. Allseas designed the prototype of the machine with which the manganese nodules are brought to the surface.
