Lessons learned during the interactive webinar crew changes in corona time

On Tuesday 1 December 2020, experienced experts Annet Koster (KVNR), Wilko Kok (Van Oord) and Pieter Veen (Boskalis) took us on the roller coaster of crew changes in corona time. The setting was the Buccaneer in Delft with Seriena Bal as moderator.

Annet Koster, director of KVNR, highlighted the role of a trade association during a crisis and explained the important pillars; Anticipate, Take Action, Have Patience and The Next Wave: “Repeat”.

Wilko Kok, Fleet Manager, spoke about the new procedures and measures that had to be taken and the lessons learned that resulted from this.

Pieter Veen, Site Engineer, talked about his own experience as a Site Engineer in Singapore, such as quarantine periods, testing and check-up calls.

After the presentations, a panel discussion followed in which answers were given to, among other things, “How do industry and companies best tackle the crisis together”? and “Seafarer is a critical profession and must be an international priority when vaccinating against Covid 19”.

Only a few days after the webinar it was announced that the United Nations has passed a resolution identifying seafarers worldwide as a critical profession. This should make it easier to relieve personnel on board ships who have often been stuck on a ship for months longer than planned.
