Japan has ambitious climate target goals, which include achieving 36%-38% of renewable energy in power supplies (a doubling from 2019) and climate neutrality by 2050. While land scarcity keeps increasing, the country is also blessed with the world’s 8th largest exclusive economic zone and a very good solar resource.
The ocean space therefore provides a unique opportunity for large scale developments of offshore solar both as stand-alone, and in combination with offshore wind.
