Course Offshore wind basics: two morning sessions – 1&2 December

This course is organised in cooperation with the DOB-Academy.

Course content

In this course participants will learn the basics of the offshore wind energy industry in inspiring lectures, which will contribute to understanding this rapid growth and identifying possible opportunities for the company. The lectures will be accompanied by two practical cases in which the gained knowledge will immediately be put into practice.
This course and its material are written and given entirely in English, however if all participants are Dutch, it is possible to give the lectures in Dutch.

Learning objectives

  • Understanding the rapid growth and development of the offshore wind energy industry
  • Acquiring knowledge about the effect of policy and societal needs in the development of offshore wind energy
  • Understanding how wind is converted into electricity, how this electricity is transported to consumers and how a business case can be built for this
  • Gaining insight into the life cycle of a typical wind farm including design, construction, installation, operation and maintenance

Target audience

This course has been developed for newcomers in the offshore wind industry and others interested in the sector. Background knowledge or a technical education is not required.

Programme

Morning Wednesday 1 December
The societal and political aspects of the offshore wind industry will be discussed. After that, the production and distribution of energy from wind will be explained.

Morning Thursday 2 December
The life cycle of an offshore wind farm will be addressed and this knowledge will be brought to life by installing a miniature wind farm in our lab. This will be followed by a short introduction in the business case of a wind farm. The morning will close with a peek into future technologies and an exam.

Hybrid set-up

At the DOB-Academy they offer several ways to participate in the training courses. All of the regular training courses will have the hybrid set-up. This means that part of the participants can join the course in Delft whereas others can participate online via Zoom. This enables each participant to join the training course how he/she is comfortable with.
At the DOB-Academy all measures are in place to ensure they meet the current COVID-19 regulations.
