IRO Innovation Seminar

During this event three pre-selected companies presented their innovations and competed for the IRO Innovation Prize.

And the winner is…

The 60 participants at the event were asked to vote and Ulstein Equipment came out as winner with their innovative ‘ColibriTM – Mastering Motions’. Sander Vergroesen, Managing Director IRO presented the IRO Innovation Prize to Arjan Boezeman, Head of Innovation Ulstein Netherlands during the network reception at ESTEC. In 2013, Ulstein also won the Innovation prize for its Chain Type Stinger Handling System.

More about the winning ‘Ulstein ColibriTM – Mastering Motions’
The ‘Ulstein ColibriTM – Mastering Motions’ is a crane add-on that is a compact and efficient 3D motion-compensated handling system for the purpose of increasing vessel operability. The system is mounted on the tip of a (standard) crane as a new-build option, or retrofit.


The 2 other nominees were:

Fugro: ‘3Direct’
Innovation: accurate and continuous hands-off positioning through video stream tracking of 3D structures. 3Direct enhances safety and operational control during lifting and lowering operations

Van Heck: ‘Sea Trophy’
Innovation: Sea Trophy, the first complete mobile pump system that enables the controlled, contained, fast (fuel-) oil recovery after incorrect or off-spec fuelling and in the event of grounding or calamity at sea.
