Crossing bridges: reinventing heat supply

Nieuwegein Conferenties & Beurzen

In the process of moving away from fossil fuels, what will the heat transition going look like? How large is the role of district heating and local and regional heat networks going to be, and to what extent will it be used in horticulture en industry? This will be the center of discussion in our next event.

Thursday, 8 October 2020,
Afternoon from 13:00 – 16:30h
Evening from 18:00 – 21:30h
A walking dinner is offered in between the two sessions from 16:45 – 17:45h.

Participation fee: €75.
(free membership of the ERC is required)

We kindly ask you to save the date for this upcoming event from the Energy Reinvented Community.

These keynote speakers have already confirmed their contribution: Diederik Samsom (Chief of Cabinet to EU commissioner Frans Timmermans), Ans van den Bosch (Deputy director Warmte en Ondergrond of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate), Manja Thiry (Director Business Development, Eneco), Michelle de Rijke (partner at Van der Felz advocaten), Lex Bosselaar (Expertise Centrum Warmte), Joost Rompa (program manager RES Midden-Holland / senior advisor BMC).

In the afternoon we will open the event with an introduction to the energy transition in the heat space and an overview of heat sources. The regular Working Group meetings of Offshore Energy, Community Engagement, CCUS, Digital Energy and Heat Transition, will meet parallel in the afternoon. In the evening we will discuss various elements of the heat transition. Part of the heat demand can be met by electrification, but certainly not all. So, how will our future heat supply be shaped? What types of sources are going to feed into those networks? To what extent do heat networks and geothermal projects need each other? Where is industry going to get its high temperature heat from? A role for hydrogen is often suggested here. Lots of interesting questions to be answered!

We are interested to hear your ideas about the heat transition as well. Therefore, we kindly invite you to share your thoughts and dilemmas, so head over to our LinkedIn page to give your input to the discussion!

Please note: Against the background of the recently announced relaxation of the COVID-19 restrictions we aim for a live face-to-face event, allowing space for multiple network opportunities. Off course, in case of new restrictions in relation to the COVID-19 situation we consider alternative options as well. Therefore, the venue of the event will be announced later.

This event is the third in a series of three events within the overall 2020 annual theme of Crossing Bridges. In three main events we will address opportunities, spark ideas and discuss the required innovation and solutions that will connect the current and the future energy system, bring the Industries, energy & utility sector and communities together, align the energy sector with industry hubs, and bridge between generations.
