The fast growing economic development of Vietnam drives an increased demand for energy. Within ambitious goals to develop the sustainable energy sector in the country in the near future, wind energy plays an important role. At the moment, the focus is mainly on onshore and nearshore developments, but at the same time the outlook for offshore wind is promising, especially in the Southern coastal zone (Ho Chi Minh City and South).
Anticipating on this potential for offshore wind, the time is right for Dutch companies to make their entrance in this market and explore future opportunities. The Vietnamese government sees The Netherlands as an important partner to co-operate on developing their wind resources.
The trade mission headed by Prime Minister Rutte offers an excellent opportunity for the Dutch wind energy sector to get foothold in this market and to establish a position as a reliable and knowledgeable partner. The programme of the mission initially focuses on offshore wind energy companies and knowledge institutes. Companies active in onshore wind can also benefit from parts of the programme.
