2. RECENT TRENDS IN THE UPSTREAM OIL&GAS MARKET AND RELATED KEY UPSTREAM TECHNOLOGY TRENDS

The technology programs of most E&P organizations have been strongly shaped over the past few years by the need to bring down costs and raise efficiencies. At the same time, a broader set of industry trends now seem to be taking hold that are leading to further structural changes to how companies approach upstream technology development and where they focus their efforts. These trends include a shift away from exploration and toward field extension, a focus on “short-cycle” barrels, and a need to manage the carbon intensity of upstream operations. This presentation starts with an update of the general oil and gas market and discusses the key upstream technology trends.
